Bread
Basic Dough for Rolls and Buns

Use for Dinner, Parkerhouse, Cloverleaf or Fan Rolls or Sandwich Buns.

Scald 1 c. milk and drop in:
3 Tbsp. shortening. (allow to melt in cooling milk)
1 envelope yeast, softened in:
1/2 c. lukewarm water with 1 tsp. sugar
When milk has cooled add:
1 egg, beaten
1 Tbsp. sugar, softened yeast and
3-3 1/2 c. flour with
1 (scant) tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder

Knead dough on board or pastry cloth. Grease and return to bowl. Let rise about double in bulk. Knead down and let rise again. See separate recipes for rolls and buns.
