Basic Sweet Roll Dough

For Cinnamon, Upside Down Nut and Fruit Flavored Rolls, Good Lil' Divels, Christmas Rings and Old Country Coffee Cake.

1 envelope yeast in 1/4 c. lukewarm water
1 tsp. sugar
1 c. evaporated milk (undiluted)
1 Tbsp. vinegar (scant)
1/4 c. melted shortening
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 to 3 c. flour to make a soft dough

Dissolve yeast in 1/4 c. water. Warm milk to lukewarm and add vinegar, sugar, egg, shortening and soda. Stir well. Stir in half of flour, then yeast and beat ‘til smooth. Add remaining flour with salt and baking powder and knead quickly.

Let rise ‘till double in bulk.
