Deep Dish Tamale Pie

Another use for Basic Spanish Sauce.

1/4 c. yellow corn meal
1/2 c. cold water
2 c. boiling water, salted to taste
1/4 lb. ground beef (approximately)
1 small onion, chopped or sliced thin
1 c. Basic Spanish Sauce with extra dash of garlic salt, ground cumin and chili powder, if you like.

Mix corn meal with cold water and stir into boiling water. Cook ‘til thick and line bottom and sides of deep casserole, reserving 1/3 for top.

Brown ground meat in very small amount of fat with onion and break into bits. Add Basic Sauce and simmer five minutes, thickening slightly with just a sprinkling of corn meal. Pour into the lined casserole and spoon remainder of cooked corn meal on top. May need to thin slightly with hot water. Dot top with butter or margarine.

Bake about 45 minutes at 400°F.
