Cooking for Daily Living

1 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk (or substitute 1/2 c. water and scant Tsp. whey)
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 Tbsp. oil or melted shortening

Stir all to a medium soft dough and drop by heaping teaspoons-full on top of boiling meat, chicken, or stew, 20 minutes before serving time. Use large kettle and cover tightly for 12-15 minutes. May lift out a bite-size piece with a fork to test for doneness. Lift dumplings to a plate before taking up meat and broth.
