Marble Refrigerator Cookies

Set oven at 375-400°F.

Cream together:
1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening

Beat in:
1 egg

1/4 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. ground raisins (whole raisins will not slice well)

Divide this  mix into two portions.

Sift together:
3 c. flour
2/3 tsp soda
1 tsp. salt

Divide this mix in half, add 1/4 c. coca powder to one.

Make two portions of dough by combining the cocoa mixture with one half of wet mixture and white flour mixture with the other half.

Crumble alternate layers of dark and light dough in a single (bread) loaf pan, press down firmly and chill or freeze.

Turn out on a bread board or cloth and with a thin sharp knife, cut brick of dough in two lengthwise. Return half to refrigerator. Slice cookies medium thin and bake only ‘til lightly browned.
