Miscellaneous Cooking Hints

Bananas that are ripening too fast will keep days longer if peeled and closed tightly in a jar in the refrigerator. Don’t refrigerate unpeeled bananas.

To find out if an egg is boiled or raw, spin it—a raw egg will not spin.

To conserve energy, lay bread, rolls, doughnuts, etc. in a pan that fits the top of a kettle that you are cooking something else in. Then cover this pan with another turned upside down. The items will be heated when the contents of the kettle are done.

Cut green onion tops fine with scissors and refrigerate in a plastic bag to mix in baked potato dressing on salads, sandwiches, etc.

Use Nasturtium blossoms on sandwiches, or salads any time you pass by them. They are peppery like watercress and build up a resistance to colds.
